Protecting people, property and equipment requires the right
apparel, blankets, curtains and screens. Alpha-Weld® welding/safety
products range from cost effective lightweight curtain materials
for containment of sparks and arc-flash to heavy duty, long-service
fabrics to shield against molten slag. The materials are made
of incombustible fiberglass or silica, aramid and carbon. Most
important, all are free of asbestos. A wide range of proprietary
finishes or coatings are available to resist molten metal, water,
oil, harsh chemicals, fire and abrasion. These fabrics resist
most acids and alkalis, will not mildew or rot, and are unaffected
by bleaches and solvents. They are flexible, drapable and easy
to cut and stitch. Since the acquisition of Southern Manufacturing,
Alpha now offers an expanded line of fabrics for welding protection
and fabrication of safety blankets, curtains and shields. These
fabrics are designed to protect personnel and equipment in ship
building, power generation, chemical processing, refinery, and
many other industrial applications.

Description of Treatments
9383—Partial heat cleaning that removes most organic
compounds, ties down loose fibers and optimizes the material
for use with adhesives.
AMA—A highly reflective lamination of dual metalized
polyester that provides excellent flexibility, heat reflectivity
and vapor shielding for protective clothing applications.
Cleangard™—An acrylic treatment that improves
ease of handling by reducing lint, itching and irritation.
Used for safety apparel, welding curtains and blankets.
Goldengard™—Designed for welding blanket applications to provide flexibility,
ease of fabrication, increased resistance to abrasion, chemicals
and oil.
Hypalon®—Fire-retardant coating providing abrasion
and moisture resistance.
Neoprene—High-temperature synthetic rubber coating
that provides oil and moisture resistance.
Silicone—A high-temperature (500º) coating
that provides water and oil resistance.
Thermagard™—Aluminum flake and acrylic treated
fabric with abrasion-resistance and reflective characteristics.
Used for die-cut gaskets, seals and reflective insulators.
Van™—Proprietary treatment in blue, black
and natural to enhance heat dispersion. Used in gaskets,
insulation and heat shields.
Vermiculite—100% inorganic vermiculite treatment
that increases temperature range of fabric and facilitates
fabrication and handling. Used for heat shielding blankets, curtains
and
insulation in furnaces, light fixtures and ovens.
Weldgard™—A safety-orange acrylic treatment
that reduces lint and increases fabric workability.
Weldflex-1™ — A neoprene treatment on both sides.
Self-extinguishing. Provides excellent flexibility and workability.
Weldflex-P™—A proprietary neoprene and vemiculite
treatment.
